Hi,
I grew up in the church. That should give you an idea of the internal struggle and musical journey I have been on. And even though I have grown in my thinking since then, I am grateful for the different styles and instruments I was exposed to at an early age. Music to me, is a connection to the universe unlike any other. It is pure in it's creation and execution, leaving no misunderstandings or biases. Music heals! Music is LIFE. (Ok a bit deep for a first entry but) My for passion for music and sharing music with as many people possible is what drives me and is at the core of what GRP is all about. Because of this, I have an appreciation and love for all genres and interpretations.
It was in the midst of this early journey when I made the decision to transfer high schools after my sophomore year at a Christian school. I was in a band with my friend, Nate who went to that school and I was tired of the hour and a half bus ride every day. I was finally able to wear my Metallica T-shirts, grow my hair out, and fully embrace the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle I had started to identify with. At 17, THAT WAS HUGE!
I think it was my first or second day during orientation, I was sitting in the cafeteria all by myself. And that’s when Sean Lucas came up out of the blue, and introduced himself. And if you know Sean or once you get to know him you know that that’s not his personality at all. But that’s what started a musical partnership that grown over the last 25 years into the idea Goat Rock is today.
We immediately hit it off! His love for music and his abilities on the guitar quickly made for awesome songwriting sessions. To be honest, I was a little jealous of his guitar skills. I wanted to be that good! LOL We wrote 100's of songs and pieces together. We come from different musical backgrounds but they always complimented each other. I don't think I would be as far along in my musical abilities if it not Sean. It was Sean that had told me about this cool place called Goat Rock Beach.
Next time.....changing bands, playing shows and what the F*** is a Blue Hippo?
